The determinant of course is the level of energy, because only energy is what sustains everything.

The Taoist concept upon which acupuncture is based states that "as is above, so is below". Also inherent in Taoist thought is the concept of microcosm and macrocosm, with man being the microcosm within an awesome macrocosm which sustains us. Each cell within our bodies is a miniature universe which sustains itself for the good of the whole and it is the whole which provides energy for the functioning of the cells. What does this have to do with man and his medicine today? Well, quite simply, everything because most of the Western doctors have, through a superficial system of though and belief, alienated ourselves. We do not deal with universal principles because we cannot perceive them nor can we detect them, and because we do not acknowledge them we deny their existence. To deny the flow and ebb of life, to deny the sense of spirit, the changing of things is to deny everything. This is not what most good acupuncture schools teach.
